Northwest Indiana’s premier dry eye clinic.

Dry Eye is a chronic disorder with multiple treatment options.

At Crown Point Eye Care, our doctors are dry eye specialists, and our diagnostic equipment allows us to provide a personalized dry eye treatment regime.

Inflammation in the oil glands (meibomian glands) of the eyelids accounts for a majority of dry eye cases.  This inflammation leads to blockage of oil production, which will eventually lead to oil gland deterioration.

We apply a multi-treatment approach to provide comfort and restore proper gland function.

Treatments

ZEST

Many of the common problems associated with dry eyes (approximately 85%) begin at the eyelid margin.  It’s actually the dirt, debris, and oil residue along the edge of your eyelids which can cause your eyes to itch, water, and burn.  Each blink bring more and more unnatural components onto the tear film that coats the eye.  This can cause the eye to become red and irritated. Zocular products are not artificial tear substitutes and work better and longer than other eyelid hygiene products.  Zocular products are not drugs like antibiotics or steroids that can cause serious side effects.  Zocular products contain patent-pending innovations that shift the paradigm by incorporating the restorative and healing properties of okra into an advanced formulation to naturally remove the source of the problem residing on your eyelids.

IPL

Intense Pulsed Light (abbreviated IPL) describes the use of intense pulses of non-coherent light distributed over a range of wavelengths; from 400nm to 1200nm. The technology utilizes specific wavelength ranges to target various chromophores in the skin. This enables effective treatment of a broad spectrum of conditions, including dry eyes,  vascular and pigmented lesions, skin photoaging treatments and hair removal.

The focus of IPL therapy for dry eye is to stop the cycle of inflammation by reducing inflammatory mediators, alleviate abnormal blood vessels, decrease demodex, and restore meibomian gland function.

Prescription Medications

Prescription medications used to treat dry eyes are also available for patients that would not benefit from ZEST or IPL therapies.  Our doctors can prescribe any of the FDA approved meds for dry eye such as Restasis, Xiidra, or Cequa.

At home therapies

There are many additional therapies that can be done at home in conjunction with the in office procedures to help maintain the ocular surface.
